To-Do Lists

Every weekday, at my own blog After the Dust Settles.... , I post a to-do list. It may seem silly to post one every day, but it really keeps me focused and I can keep track of what I have to do that day. When you work at home, it is easy to get distracted (as I am now. I should be doing paperwork and not writing a post) and anything you can do to keep you focused on the tasks at hand is a plus. I find that posting things out there for the whole blogosphere to see kind of pushes me to get things done. Plus there is a certain amount of satisfaction in striking out the tasks as they are completed. And sometimes, you even get people commenting on your list, giving an additional boost. Today's list is below....now I better get back to my task at hand, before I run out of time.

  1. clean up house, so SIL can clean it
  2. do paperwork for orders shipping today
  3. pack and ship those orders
  4. unload kiln and see how it fired. (keeping fingers crossed)
  5. capture $
  6. email customers their orders shipped
  7. process some orders
  8. start painting
  9. get some exercise in (I can do it)
  10. print some piggy cards to go in with orders

My To Do list is in my day planner. But I can see the value of blogging it. Adds accountability. But do I really want people to know that I have to pay my taxes today or vacuum the cat fur from under the couches?

Hey, some days I go out and scoop the dog poop : ) But not today....did it last night. I don't know how many read my to do lists, but it is an easy way for me to keep track of what I have to get done. And an excuse to get on the computer and check email and read blogs....oh, I am getting distracted again.

I totally miss not having accountability with my to-do list! Lynn and I used to be very diligent about emailing each other - alas, life got in the way and we stopped. It really helped keep me focused. It didn't matter if it was Comfy Cozy work, or houseework, I tried to do my best to get some of it done. The best part of writing it down and telling someone, another wahm, was that she completely understood what I was going thru. No judgement but just a pat on the back for at least taking dinner out of the freezer in time or shipping out the orders. The sense of accomplishment, especially when my boys were baby/toddler age, meant everything.

I still make my list every day or make a week goal list on Monday, but it's not the same. I'll try to post here and you all can keep my honest - and productive!!

Hi Lynn, great site, now you given me something else I want to read everyday, I wish we could figure out how to have enough time to do everything we want to do!
